8/19/2006 - Doctors Exonerated in Alex City

ALEXANDER CITY--A Tallapoosa County jury today exonerated two doctors charged with malpractice in failing to diagnos compartment syndrome and thrombosis.  The case mistried against the Russell Medical Center. The plaintiff, whose left arm required amputation also criticized the doctors for failing to prescribe anti-coagulants.

Defendants focused on causation contending the amputation was not preventable given the plaintiff's other medical conditions.  The case against the hospital was later dismissed via settlement.

Thomas H. Keene and Patrick M. Shegon of Rushton, Stakely, Johnston & Garrett, P.A. represented the doctors. 

Plaintiff was represented by by S. Shay Samples of Hare, Wynn, Newell & Newton of Birmingham and Timothy B. Davis of Alexander City.

The hospital was represented by James E. Williams and C. Mark Bain of Melton, Espy & Williams.
